Monsanto Day Trip: Stones and Knights Templar AdventURE

Monsanto (‘Holy Mountain’) exudes a magical aura and you can’t help but feel you are entering a fairytale world. This is a fascinating and powerful place, both historically and energetically. Its dramatic landscape of massive granite boulders, which have been used to build homes and fortifications, makes it one of the most unique villages in Portugal.  It was originally inhabited by the Lusitanians, a Celtic-Iberian people who considered it a sacred site. It was then occupied by the Romans, invaded by the Visigoths and conquered by the Arabs, it was the Knights Templars who subsequently constructed the hilltop castle in the 12th Century, which still presides over the village.  It was no doubt coveted due to its strategic position high atop the mountain but I also believe it was for energetic and spiritual reasons. The energy at Monsanto is palpable and on another level!

On this full-day private tour, we’ll wander the ancient streets and hidden corners of Monsanto, where every boulder tells a story. Highlights include:

  • Boulder Houses — dwellings built directly into and under massive granite rocks.
  • Knights Templar Fortress — a 12th-century castle built upon Celtic and Roman foundations, overlooking the vast landscape.
  • Ancient Sacred Landscape — natural enclosures, pathways, and ceremonial spaces shaped by giant stones.
  • Panoramic Views — breathtaking vistas stretching across central Portugal.

I’ll guide you through the village’s mysteries, from its Celtic origins to its Templar legacy, while also helping you connect with the deep energy of the place. Monsanto is not just history. It’s an experience and almost like a pilgrimage!

In Drunvalo Melchsidek’s second volume of The Ancient Secrets of The Flower of Life, he mentions that this temple represents the second chakra, as it is the only one that’s dedicated to polarity, or duality, which is the basis of sexuality, and tow god are associated with it – Sobek the crocodile god and Horus.
